Saxophonist George Sax comes from a long tradition of the finest African jazz saxophonists. Whilst studying Fine arts at WITS University George Sax associated himself with highly profiled Jazz Musicians at ‘The Bass Line’, one South Africa’s premier jazz venues. In the true spirit of jazz these old school masters were more than happy to share their knowledge of not just the saxophone but also the art of jazz. As George Sax’s abilities as a saxophonist improved he was regularly invited to sit in on live sessions with these great saxophonists and jazz players. Sax believes that through his generous mentors he received an education in musicianship that would rival even the great Berkley College!
George Sax covers Jazz from Swing and Bebop to African and Latin funk. He mixes live sax with quality underground dance genres from chill trip-hop, acid jazz, and all styles of house; he naturally collaborates with vocalists and sporadically eases his magic lips beating out live African percussion.
George Sax’s repertoire is limitless, from underground house clubs to corporate functions. He provides a uniquely personal musical experience to satisfy and inspire everyone who hears him play.
He is one of the few musicians who have been able to crossover into the forbidden realm of DJ's and house producers. By composing a cocktail of decadent mixing on the dance floor with live afro jazz roots and tribal Djembe rhythms George Sax has mixed it up with house music’s finest locally and internationally. He has impressed countless dance floors with his unique sounds and presence. George has recently produced his second album titled ‘Saxuality’ featuring ‘Funk 4’ members (Band he founded) and guest producers. He is currently based in Cape Town,and features regularily with The Jack Mantis Band.His New Band THT Groove project is currently working on his third album release currently performing across SA. Future plans include lots of live performance,locally and internationaly, and promoting the new CD as well as touring with The Jack Mantis Band.
