Firmly rooted in the jazz tradition the group strives to take jazz into the 21st century.Funk 4 utilizes the latest in contemporary beats like house and hip hop,whilst still preserving traditional jazz values.Dont be surprised if you hear a hauntingly old school version of "Misty" followed by a dub version of "autumn Leaves" or one of Georges orignal funk groove tracks. George Sax & Funk 4 have been well received across the board,young and old ,corporate or club gigs,Festivals or fashion,they never seem to stop impressing.

  George Sax & FUNK 4 is a Sax creation. Funk 4’s roots are essentially jazz based,and even though the band is quite capable and often does play traditional genres of jazz, its most potent feature is the ability to utilize modern genres of music and blend them into fresh styles of jazz which is both prolific and exciting whilst preserving the spirit and class of old school jazz music. Merging styles such as hip hop and swing or reinterpretting a jazz classic with house elements is not uncommon. The band comprises of top class SA musicians which gives the band a unique afro feel regardles of style or genre.

   

  George has always believed in the uniting and healing power of music, FUNK 4 provides the ideal vehicle for Sax to acomplish this “we create a bridge between young and old generating a fresh new style of jazz for the people by the people”. This is quite evident when attending a live performance of FUNK 4 the cultural diversity as well as the ranges of age is quite astounding.The style of the band is distinctly urban whilst maintaining its African edge , allowing the old school jazz listner the enjoyment of jazz free style and melody whilst providing the younger audience with ample groove and beats.

   

  George Sax & FUNK 4 have recorded at Mega music studios (Sleeping Dragon), and have performed extensively across Southern Africa,besides various festivals, corporates and club gigs the band has been invited to perform for several international dignitaries such as Nelson Mandela and the Prince of Holland. They have appeared on TV on several occasions as well as recieving regular airplay on several independant radio stations. Currently the band is working on several collaborations experimenting with trip hop dj Niel Gain and are performing at the Suiderooster jazz fest in Cape Town in February.
